Circulating Mouthpiece for a dancer and piccolo quintet Music: Lauri Supponen, Choreography: Elias Girod and Linda Martikainen Performed by Uusinta Ensemble and Elias Girod at the Music hall in Helsinki 2018/02/19. Breathing is an action that creates movement, sound and rhythm. Ventilation – both machine and human – can form clear and meaningful images in the listener’s mind. The concert hall suggests a way of being that is vertical, highlighting the upper body and all that it heralds. With subtle shifts in movement and presence, we hope to make the concert hall’s conventions visible. All parts work together as equals to create a holistic experience. The performance reworks masculinity, while seeking ways of being that propose feminine qualities without representing womanhood. These ways of being are co-existent and interlaced, not opposing. This performance came to being through exploring drives, senses and the frailty of being. |
